Aref is a clinical psychologist and researcher who is an expert in conflict resolution, consensus building and therapeutic communication skills. As a Senior Consultant, Aref applies his extensive knowledge to civil and criminal cases in the areas of product liability, white-collar crime, toxic tort, catastrophic injury, complex business litigation and medical malpractice. More specifically, Aref has extensive experience in advising corporate clients in personal injury cases involving gas and electric utilities. Aref has been involved in several hundred mock trials and focus groups in venues throughout the country. He has assisted counsel on several high profile cases with case strategy, survey research, juror profile development, voir dire, jury selection, trial monitoring and analyses of juror decisions.
Aref also has specific expertise in conducting and analyzing data from online jury research. He helped establish a unique and state-of-the-art online jury research program that allows clients to collect extensive and reliable data about pending cases quickly.
Aref is a recognized expert in helping clients communicate strategically and effectively in sensitive situations, such as witnesses testifying in trial and in deposition. Prior to joining the trial consulting field, Aref served as the Director of the Sex Offenders Treatment Program at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview, in Pennsylvania. He also lectured in the Department of Psychology at The Pennsylvania State University.
Aref received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Clinical Psychology from The Pennsylvania State University. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Northwestern University. He has published and presented numerous works including “How Jury Research Can Make a Difference”, “Choosing the right corporate representative: Perspectives from a trial consultant”, “The art of storytelling”, and “Your view into the minds of jurors in utility cases”. He has presented at AEGIS Insurances Services claims seminars, the Team Health Attorney Seminar, the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association and the Defense Research Institute’s Retail and Hospitality and Construction Law seminars.
